Parallels 5 versus VMWare Fusion 3
Since I upgraded to VMWare Fusion 3, my experience with VMWare was less than stellar. Slow, frequent complete system crashes (my MacPro just froze. Nothing, no mouse, no sound, nothing).
I tried the fixes I found online, but so far, nothing really worked.
So I upgraded my Parallels Desktop 3 license to a Desktop 5 license, and am now busily importing my virtual machines. So far, it looks pretty good. There are some quirks (like, why do i need to relog twice just to change some folder settings?), but all my Vista and Windows 7 VMs start in Aero mode by default, multi proc support seems to work, and the CPU utilization on the Mac is much better than it has been with version 3 of the product.
What is kind of painful when switching VM hosting environments is that they all have their own tools to enhance graphics, mouse, USB support etc, and you are unable to run the uninstall routines when you switched the hosting environment. Why VMWareTools needs to verify it is running inside VMWare to uninstall itself is beyond me….
